Be ready to be taken away from the grueling routine of city life as you vacation through Shimla, Spiti and Manali. An ideal feast for mind, body and soul alike, you will be mesmerized by the rustic feel of Spiti and the charming cities of Shimla and Manali.
The day one will involve local sightseeing in Shimla as we will explore the old summer capital of colonial India and see some of it’s most prominent sights like Mall Road, Lakkad Mandi, Kufri and a few others.
Drive – Shimla – Sarhan
We begin our drive to Sarhan from Shimla, after breakfast. As we cross Wangtu Bridge on the way, we will reach Sarhan during evening hours. We might be lucky to check out Sarhan Bird Sanctuary and Bhim Kali temple.
DAY 3 and 4
From Sarhan – Sangla
We will be spending two days in Sangla viewing the scenic natural beauty, and the rustic village life, as we grab the chance to sink in the wonders of nature trails and apple orchards. Bring out the child in you by walking through tiny river streams and paddling on the riverside. This time spent here gives us a chance to acclimatize ourselves to coming higher altitudes.
From Sangla – Kalpa
Kalpa village houses wondrous apple orchards and breathtaking meadows. A small town, Reckong Peo, here serves as the district headquarters for Kinnaur district and also serves as the starting point for journeys to the Spiti Valley. Our hotel here, is a lovely romantic getaway, between apple and cherry orchards, where you can spend some quality time.
From Kalpa – Tabo
Hereafter we reach the Tabo monastery in Tabo. It has a history of 1000 years and is one of the oldest monuments with respect to Buddhist monasteries. Particularly famed for its Thanka paintings and plenty of artifacts, Tabo monastery is recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. The entry gate has walls made of earth, splattered with frescoes. A breathtaking pillar of a Thousand Buddhas will catch your attention. The entire area occupies 6300 square kms. The wall paintings show the Buddha’s life in various stages along with Tibetan style Jataka paintings. Next on the cards is a visit to special mountain caves used by monks for their meditation. Next comes, a visit to Nako Lake, and Giu, where you will find a mummy of a Buddhist monk
Tabo – Dhankar – Pin Valley visitWe start the drive to Dhankar lake, the ancient capital of Spiti during the rule of kings. Here, we come across the remains of an ancient castle and a monastery of the 16th century. High o the top of a mountain is the town which overlooks the whole picturesque valley. We then walk to Dhankar lake, a walk of about 90 minutes and reach Pin valley, which has many streams and you will also find some rare birds and animals
Pin – Langza – Hikkim – Komic – Kaza visit
As we drive towards the capital of Spiti, Kaza we come across Langza, Hikkim and Koumik, which is famous for its fossils in Langthis Natural Fossil Center. Then comes a visit to Komic monastery, known as the highest monastery in the world and another monstery near Hikkim village, destroyed earlier by an earthquake in 1975.
Drive to Kaza – Ki – Kibber – Chandratal
Kibber road is our next drive, to visit the Ki monastery belonging to the Gelupga Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Here we find a boastful collection of beautiful paintings and old manuscripts. It is located at an altitude of 4120 meters. We then visit the biggest village in the Lahaul Spiti Area, Kibber village as we drive 4250 meters. This is an ideal place for wildlife photographers. We, then reach Chandratal Lake by evening to watch the wonderful sunset over the calm waters of the lake and spend the night in campsite.
Drive-Chandratal – Manali
Reaching Manali from Chandratal takes about 7-9 hours, but it’s worth the drive as we pass through various landmarks like Batal, Chotta Darrah, Gramphu and the well-known Rohtang Pass. This is very picturesque and also amongst the highest motor able pass in India. On reaching Manali in the evening, we rest awhile and then take a walk along the forest and old Manali.
Drive to Manali
Marking the last day of our journey in Manali, we spend it taking leisure walks in the city and shopping around the market area. We may also visit the Hidimba temple and the Manu temple, which is the temple of the first human, according to Hindu mythology. We end this journey by dipping ourselves in the warm springs of Vashistha Kund as we end this journey.
